FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What do we mean by an open plan salon?
Our salon is open plan, this means our groomers can be seen working at all times. We have partition walls and dogs are kept safe and secure, but the walls are low enough to give full visibility. Although we ask that you do not stay to watch your pets groom, as this can make them excitable and unwilling to settle into the grooming routine, they are never hidden away and our skills are on show!
How can I keep my dogs coat in great condition between grooms?
We recommend a thorough brush and comb through, making sure you get right down to the roots of the coat, at least twice a week at home and definitely after getting wet. All you need is a slicker brush and a metal dog comb! Not only does grooming at home keep your pet matt-free, it can also be a great bonding experience for you and your dog.
How long will a groom take?
Our average grooming time is around two hours, when we have seen your dog and had a consultation we will be able to advise a more specific time and arrange a collection time. We also provide a courtesy call to let you know when you dog is ready. Please note, dogs collected more than half an hour after the collection time or phone call will be charged an additional day care fee.
How often should my dog be groomed?
This entirely depends on your dog and their haircut and coat type. Generally we recommend 8 weeks, this helps keep your dogs skin and coat healthy
and clean. If you like to keep your dogs coat long or they shed heavily grooming will be required more regularly. We are happy to advise you with a grooming schedule after your appointment.
Is there parking available?
Yes! We have parking on site, just outside The Old Stockyard where
we are based.
My dogs nails seem sharper after clipping!
This is completely normal, clipping nails can leave rough edges. A quick walk on tarmac or concrete can act like a nail file and smooth off those sharp bits.
How can I pay?
We accept cash and all major credit and debit cards. Unfortunately we cannot accept cheques.
What products do you use?
We use a range of products when grooming your dog, all of them are natural, soap free and designed for sensitive skin. Our favourite brand is 'Hownd', who make a range of specially formulated shampoos, spa treatments and fragrances that are also leaping bunny approved. Supporting cruelty free brands is very important to us!
I have a puppy that needs grooming, what do I do?
That's great, we can't wait to meet them! It's a good idea to get your puppy used to grooming as early as possible, while they are still at their development and learning stage. As soon as your vet has cleared them for walks after their jabs we can get them booked in. To start with, we recommend either a Blow Dry or Tidy Up package. These packages are a great introduction to the grooming process for your little one. The Blow Dry is a simple bath, blow dry and brush out package. The Tidy Up is a bath, blow dry and brush out with ear cleaning, nail clipping and a light tidy up around the eyes and bottom. With all puppy grooming we do a little bit of clipper training, using positive reinforcement to get them used to the noise and vibrations of the clippers to build confidence for future grooms. We also like to allow a bit of time for play and cuddles so we can build up trust with your puppy and make grooming a fun experience!
My dog is due their flea treatment around the same time as their groom, what should I do?
We do not advise applying flea treatment just before or after a groom. Please refer to the instruction booklet of your chosen brand of flea treatment for a guide on times. Please note, if your dog has fleas, please reschedule your appointment. Any dogs arriving with parasites will be charged an additional fee to cover the costs of sterilising the salon.
My dog is matted, what can you do?
We are perfectly happy to brush out light tangles and remove the odd matt, however we will absolutely not de-matt an entire coat. It is incredibly painful for your pet and the coat is damaged in the process, making it more prone to knot up again. We just are not prepared to put a dog through any pain for a hair cut. No. In the event of heavy matting, we will offer a full clip off. This allows the coat to grow back in a lovely, healthy condition and when its grown back and kept maintained, we can achieve that 5 star look! Please note, heavily matted coats can cause, and hide, a myriad of health problems which will be discussed with you. They also cause extreme wear and tear on equipment and this will incur an additional charge on your grooming service.
